How can we get the next generation interested in the natural world? Every student needs equitable access to supplies so that they can learn about the environmental world. It's not enough that they live in this world; they need a hands-on opportunity to dig, plant, water, and grow plants. Students will conduct environmental science activities (growing veggies and flowers) and explore STEM careers that research and protect our natural world. Incorporating the aspect of environmental art would be a great way to get my students learning and engaged in the field of STEM, potentially motivating an interest in pursing a STEM career in their future. The materials requested in this project include seeds, soil, and pots - all items needed to support the project, and enough for every student to conduct multiple experiments. This would be a project where students design their own experiment with different variables to see what conditions plants germinate and grow best in, and then report their findings to the broader school community as a way to encourage effective and responsible care for the natural world.
