  • Books and Stickers

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you so much for your generosity and interest in this project! I am very moved by your support, and I am extremely excited to share these books and stickers with all my students this year. They will be delighted to check out the new titles. And the stickers will be a fun treat too!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walker

  • Middle School Classroom Books

    Funded May 11, 2021

This year, students greatly enjoyed the books purchased through your generous donations.

Even though I primarily teach 8th graders, many 6th graders in my study hall felt a special connection to the collection in my classroom.

Having a variety of choices is very important. Variety allows students to explore topics that they may not be familiar with, and then readers also have the opportunity to work on developing and deepening their empathy skills. It was fun to see students recommend books they enjoyed to their friends too.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walker

This classroom project was brought to life by Stavros Niarchos Foundation and 8 other donors.
My students are always looking for a new book to fall in love with. The English teachers in our building work hard each year to cultivate socially and culturally relevant texts to add to our classroom libraries so that students are exposed to a wide range of titles, authors, and stories. Our students come from various walks of life, but we lack the wider, natural diversity that converges in settings less isolated than ours. By creating classroom libraries with diverse characters and life experiences, we encourage our young readers to see the world from a view different from their own. And in that act, we hope that they begin to expand their ability to empathize with their fellow humans.
