As part of their differentiation, many students are working through various research based online interventions. ESOL students, Special Education students, and SST Tier III students utilize Lexia while high level learners use Read Naturally. These programs are differentiated to meet the needs of each student based on their current level. Reading is complex and multidimensional so having specified help for each child, is invaluable. These lessons range from Phonemic Awareness to fluency to constructed response questions. Working with such a variety of students, in a large range of levels, is challenging to say the least. However, with the ability to give students instruction that is specific to what they need without hours of additional planning helps to ensure they get good quality instruction while filling in the gaps. The only downfall to these programs is that they read aloud with the students, they demonstrate phonemes, and help students learn in both auditory and visual ways. This means that students have to be able to listen to their lesson. Headphones would greatly help cut down on distractions and make the lessons more affective as students can give their undivided attention to what they're learning. Thus, a class set of headphones would be beneficial to each and every student since they are rarely learning about the same topic at the same time.
