"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." -John Quincy Adams My name is Karina Ortiz and I am leader. Fresno Unified helped me find my passion in special education. I cannot see myself anywhere else but teaching. This is something that I plan to retire from because it is important to me and to the students who I am teaching. I have gained knowledge, organization, and techniques that are useful in my profession. However, I lack some of the resources needed to become more proficient in my professional development as a SDC preschool teacher.
This year our district opened several SDC preschool inclusion classes. Along with the opening of classes, they purchased an app called "Learning Genie." Learning Genie serves as a portfolio and assessment tool for both educators and families. It saves educators time on documentation and engages families. Learning Genie offers a variety of features such as: fast documentation, quick status review, flexible filter, and in-app rating. Also, it features two-way communication with auto-translation for parents.
I am requesting 2 iPads to replace our old method of collecting data and evidence. Currently my paraprofessional and I handwrite all observation notes. Which is not time efficient, environmentally beneficial, nor fair to the students. We spend hours rewriting/reviewing our notes because there is so much going on, it prevents us from being able to document an observation or miss capturing a photo for evidence. Of all trees harvested for industrial use, 42% of them go to making paper. Eliminating handwritten documentation can help our environment. A little help goes a long way. Educators have a responsibility of always providing a quality education. Meaning, there should not be any missed opportunities.
