Earth Science Lab Experiments
Funded Jul 20, 2021My students are using the materials funded through this project in many ways. Most of the materials have not been used yet, but I have some great projects planned where they will explore an area local to them to collect data on the effects of climate change locally. This project will help my students make meaningful connections between the world close to them and the content of climate change. My students also really enjoy using the demo lab book. Since the pandemic started everything has been on their 1:1 devices so they really enjoy any opportunity for hands on labs and demonstrations of phenomena.
My students were very excited to see all of the new materials that were funded through this project. As stated above any opportunity to do something hands on related to the content is enjoyed immensely. Without these materials these types of learning activities would be limited.
Currently, my students are working to understand the basics of plate tectonic and land mass movements. They will be using the demo book and the game of earth to help enrich their understanding of the content.”

Funded May 4, 2021Students in my classroom are using the new resources such as the water testing kits to explore the impacts humans have had on our local environments. This gives them a real-world application of the content we are learning in class, which helps them make meaningful connections with the content. When my students saw the new materials they were very excited to be able to be doing something that is hands-on and applicable to their lives outside of the school setting. The next steps for this project is to make a map of areas surrounding the school that are affected in a negative way by humans. By mapping these areas we can connect to localized incidents of human impacts and brain storm ideas to minimize the severity of these impacts. Your contribution has helped my students become better connected to the content of our class as well as the world around them!”
