When I have presented green screen interactive stories during google meets, my students have used their verbal skills to ask questions, "Where are you?" and make requests "I want to be in your castle!" I have used personal funds to purchase these interactive PowerPoint stories that contain up to 72 slides. The students use their verbal skills and picture/word sentence strips that I have provided to parents to empower their children to control what is happening in the story and to describe events while working on their speech and language goals. The student's use of the corresponding sentence strips reinforces literacy skills. Students feel like they have been transported into a magical world while interacting with characters and their speech-language therapist during green screen stories. Student's laughter, smiles, and spontaneous verbal interactions are evident during these activities. Students have requested to enter these magical stories over and over due to the joy that is sparked during these activities. Their vocabulary, grammar, concept development, speech sound skills, and social interactions have improved during these interactive stories. Students that were challenging to engage during virtual learning have turned the corner in their ability to positively participate during their google meet sessions. When all students can return to in-person learning next school year, these downloaded stories can be used in small groups on personal devices and shared with entire classes on smart boards year after year so that many students can benefit in the future.
