Neuroeducation, Hattie and the Flexible Seating

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Flexible Seating has been one of the best projects I have implemented in our classroom since I am a teacher! The students are being responsible with their own learning and are also understanding why it is so important to know how to use the privilege of sitting wherever they want every day. Every time a student comes into our classroom for the first time, they´re reaction is "Wow! This class is awesome!" The students love the different seating options and they like to change where they sit depending on how they feel that day or what we are working on. One of the most interesting moments I am constantly seeing is how they realize when they have chosen a SMART spot and when not. When they haven´t been working very well one day, because they were too chatty or not paying attention, we talk about it a t the end of the class and the next day, when they come in I see them sitting somewhere else and prepared to learn. That´s what I call self-determination and effective learning! Also, I have noticed that the kids that don´t have many friends in class go to sit to the ones that are also alone and end up being friends. Those moments are REALLY special! The classroom is not finished yet and we have a lot of new ideas to make it even more cozy and create a space that they feel belongs to them, but we´re working on ; ) In the meantime, here are some pics, so you can see how it´s looking so far.
