I am the math intervention coordinator for 829 bright, energetic, and motivated 6-8 grade students enrolled in our Resident, STEAM Magnet, or Gifted Magnet program. Most of our students thrive, but with the onset of the pandemic, distance learning has been both challenging and overwhelming for several. They have fallen behind academically and need additional support, especially those with disabilities and/or are English learners. We are a Title I school because 83.3% of our students are living in poverty. Many, in fact, are homeless. I am the Title I coordinator which means I advocate for programs to support our “at risk” students. One of those programs involves after-school tutoring. Based on their most recent progress report, I target students in mathematics who are not meeting California grade level standards and match them with a qualified after-school teacher-tutor. Despite schools gradually reopening, I anticipate continuing my program online. Students log into Zoom to receive their instruction. As the coordinator, I field them into an appropriate “breakout room” and monitor their progress. However, I am not able to view how they are doing unless I pop in-and-out of breakout rooms, which can be annoying to the learning environment. I would like to be able to view my breakout rooms on separate monitors. That way, I can target and identity individual student learning needs as well as observe how they response to instruction. My wish is for a desktop/monitor plus two additional monitors (currently, I am working on a single, outdated laptop) which will allow me to optimize my ability to perform my duties by viewing students simultaneously. Please help my students who struggle in math. Your donation will allow me to tutor these students one-on-one in a virtual setting. Thank you.
