Many of our students with special needs do not have means to purchase the "extras" that other students may have that enhance their learning experiences. Two basic items are as simple as an external computer mouse or a noise-canceling headset with a microphone to use voice-to-text or effectively limit classroom distractions. This limits their ability to effectively use online apps such as Kami, online whiteboards, Google Read Write or other programs and applications that are used on a daily basis. These tools are needed for both students learning in the school environment as those whose families have elected to learn virtually (from home). Additionally, in the school environment, many of my students struggle with coordination and executive functioning issues that make it difficult for them to organize and transport items safely when changing classrooms. A simple neoprene organizer case to safely store their Chromebook and accessories significantly cuts down on the issues of dropping items which not only causes risks to the equipment but often is a trigger for igniting negative behaviors such as anxiety, anger and embarrassment. With Covid restrictions, we highly restrict students sharing equipment because it needs to be sanitized between each use. This is very difficult to effectively do with the 3 items I've listed (2 are technology items and the cases are fabric). Any assistance your programs can provide would be greatly appreciated!
