Eight years ago, a dream to start a parent support group became a reality. It was sponsored and organized by a special education teacher and school based mental health workers to bridge the gap between school and home, provide education and support, and to strengthen relationships. PEACE (Parents Encouraging Each Other at Century Elementary) was born! In the past, we have gathered in the school setting to provide education and opportunities for positive interactions as families. This year, due to Covid-19, things have looked a little different. We have been sending home family fun kits each month filled with activities to do together as a family and educational materials for parents (baking, holiday crafts, sensory activities, books, movie night). If weather allows, we're hoping to end the school year with a family picnic at a local park! Funding this project will mean that we are able to celebrate the month of April by providing fun and engaging games to bring the family together! Through game play, children will learn the concepts of turn taking, good sportsmanship, problem solving, strategy, and touch on reading and math concepts. They will also build strong, positive relationships within the family unit. These games can be played and enjoyed time and time again.
