As we prepare to return to campus after a year of distance learning, I want to ensure my students feel welcome, safe and excited to be back at school. I believe that the physical classroom space can have a huge impact on a student's success and their attitude towards education. The new periodic table will hang above the whiteboard and be referenced daily and used as a tool to engage students in scientific inquiry. The bulletin board borders will frame the space where I will showcase student work and celebrate their achievements as young scientists. I look forward to creating a special flexible seating area with the science themed pillow covers where students can socially distance but still feel relaxed and comfortable to be themselves. Finally, I cannot wait to add the stickers to our classes *prize bucket*. For the last several years I have been stocking a container full of pencils, stickers, cute erasers, silly temporary tattoos and other fun items. It may seem a little juvenile, but teenagers love a prize as much as anyone else! After a review game or to celebrate a birthday students get to choose a prize from the bucket and it is a tradition I have missed while teaching remotely. I am so exited to see my students in person (many for the first time) and I want to thank you in advance for considering helping me create a classroom environment where all students can thrive and stay safe!
