Today's reading standards require serious analytical skills. Students are required to not only recall information they read, but to also recognize the significance of the writer's craft. As students learn the different types of techniques and literary tools writers use to develop their articles or stories, they also must learn to be able to recognize those in text and identify evidence to support claims they make to answer questions. Our lessons in class focus on content as well as strategies to help break-down questions to recognizable goals.
Having a wired mouse for each Chromebook will make analyzing questions and identifying textual evidence much easier and more efficient due to the capability of being able to make precise highlights. Students are required to highlight the most important information in the questions and in the text. Touchpads on their computers make it quite difficult to pinpoint the exact pieces of text needed. During timed tests, this is a crucial loss of time.
Although my students practice the highlighting strategy on hard copies, standardized tests are all taken on computer which is why the majority of work is now transitioning to digital content. They need to be able to make a smooth transition while keeping the level of success they have been experiencing with their strategies. My students are becoming quite tech savvy, which is another reason I know these mice will enhance their learning and contribute to their success. Our goal is to all attain mastery on the end of the year standardized test. Being able to click, slide, and scroll with the new mouse in the schoolhouse will surely help us attain our goal!
