Reading to SOAR! (Succeeding on Another Realm)

Reading in my classroom looks fun and exciting because they have a variety of books to choose from. The students have been able to read books that will encourage them and support them to be successful in life and improve their reading. I have a wall that they use to let me know what books they have read. We also conduct group discussions and literature circles about what they have read. My students are avid readers are more excited about being able to choose from our room instead of the library.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Dollar General Literacy Foundation and 3 other donors.

Several of the books I chose will allow the students to focus on black and brown environments as well as culturally diverse students. Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Dog Man are in Spanish. Many of my students are reading below their grade level. These books will encourage and enhance their ability to read and increase comprehension skills. Many of my students are from diverse backgrounds and have been out of school for over a year, it has hindered their reading skills. Several of them fell behind in their daily reading. These books will allow them to increase their reading skills and excel in fluency.
