  • Comfortable Readers Are Focused Readers!

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing funding to purchase comfortable and flexible seating for our middle/high school library media center. The students were super excited to have some new options when choosing a spot for their sustained silent reading. I, along with other teachers in our building, are in agreement that the students that use the flexible seating are able to read for longer periods of time with improved focus and concentration. Our goal of increased learning and reading comprehension has been realized thanks to your incredible generosity.

Thank you again for your support! It is truly appreciated, and please know that it will positively impact students for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hammell

  • Big Books Bring Us Together!

    Funded Feb 1, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to my project that has allowed me to utilize oversized books to provide literacy activities and build connections with students from Pre-K through first grade. My students and I have spent many library storytimes this school year experiencing quality literature and beautiful illustrations in the big book format. We have had discussions about authors and illustrators, as well as conversations about the different forms of art media used to create the illustrations. We have also used the big books to focus on building skills in letter, number, and sight word recognition. Most importantly, we have built connections with each other by experiencing and sharing these beautiful oversized books in small group settings, where students feel confident and comfortable to ask questions, make predictions, and strengthen their emerging literacy skills. My Pre-K classes especially love their oversized book storytimes and can't wait each week to experience a new "BIG BOOK"!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hammell

  • Library Love = Storytime on the Rug!

    Funded Nov 24, 2021

Thank you so much for providing funding to purchase a new storytime rug for our library! Our new "colorful dots" rug is used each school day by elementary students in grades PK through fourth grade. Students enjoy choosing a colorful circle and getting comfortable before hearing their favorite books and stories during our library time. Students were so very excited to see the new rug and often comment on how soft it is and how pretty it looks in our library. Our PK students really enjoy identifying the colors and shapes found within the patterns on the rug, and the older students enjoy the comfort the rug provides. We all truly appreciate your generous donation for our storytime rug. Please know that it is making a positive daily impact on my elementary library students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hammell

My Pre-K classes especially love their oversized book storytimes and can't wait each week to experience a new "HUGE BOOK"!”

    With gratitude,

Using oversized books in the elementary library builds connections with students by sharing quality literature and learning activities while staying safe in a face-to-face but socially distanced learning environment. In order to nurture my students’ love for reading and books while continuing to stay safe, I have focused on creating storytime activities that will use big books to promote interaction, comfort, and connection. It is my hope to utilize oversized books to assure that each of my students feels connected to their classmates, teacher, and learning activity at hand while nurturing their love of books and reading in a safe, comforting, and connected learning environment.
