These students will build better social skills, learn how to take turns, how to deal with winning and loosing, how to encourage their friends by using "feel good" words versus "hurting words", and learn to show good sportsmanship. Numerous social lessons have been taught and now it's time to practice these skills! These games will help improve each child's ability to make new friends and keep the friends they have already made. It will better prepare them when the opportunity arises to be mainstreamed in social events and enjoy recess with the other classes! The oversized games will increase their motivation and desire to participate. It will also improve both their fine motor and gross motor skills, and eye hand coordination, as well as, further helping them wait in line, manipulate smaller pieces, and control their body movements. Waiting in line without bumping into peers, cheering peers on, and offering support may be challenging for some of my students. This is a great way to practice these skills in real-life situations in a smaller environment. Board games will help my students learn to know when it is their turn, how to wait for their turn, learn to cope when losing a game, not getting their favorite color, or when getting sent back to start (big deal versus little deal). We can't wait to PLAY!! Thank you for considering my project and helping my students continue to learn one of the most important skills in life, how to socialize with others.
