The purpose of my project is twofold: to allow all my students a seating choice that enables them to let out some energy without distraction to themselves or peers, and to give students the autonomy to create the most effective learning environment for themselves. It's common knowledge today that no two students learn the exact same way. The same way some students might do well with memorizing and reciting, others excel in retaining information when packaged as a song or visual. The same goes for their seating choice. In addition, the choice in seating provides something fun and new to look forward to each day! With all of these different options for seating, my students will be able to practice exercising their autonomy in choosing the most effective learning setup for themselves. They can test out different combinations to discover what helps them best engage with lessons, and gain confidence in learning the right choices to make. I've noticed that when given the opportunity to, students excel more and garner a deeper understanding of concepts when they feel they have ownership over it. That begins with their seating arrangement. If fully funded, this project will also allow enough different options so that all students in a classroom would have access to a selection of different seating configurations. This not only will enable them to engage more with the content, but they also get to practice advocating for themselves. Due to the versatility of all the seating options, they are able to be fully utilized around the whole classroom.
