Providing students with a choice in flexible seating results in more engagement and motivation to learn. Children are naturally squirmy and fidgety. They need a positive outlet to release this energy and figure out how to best focus on their work. If the students have a comfortable chair to sit in class, then they are more likely to stay engaged in their learning, which means growing as a learner. I like to give my students options on where he/she completes their work. I want them to take control of what works and doesn't work for them when it's time to learn. As adults, we have learned how we focus and work best. Whether it's with complete silence or a light song playing in the background, at an office desk or on a comfy couch in the corner, or with a small group or independently. Children need to start to take more control of their learning, advocating what works and doesn't work when it comes to completing work. It's part of our job as educators to help foster and encourage this independence. Giving them the option of flexible and comfortable seating could be the first step in reaching their academic and personal goals.
