Students need to have purposeful instruction on social-emotional learning. If students are not explicitly taught these skills, chances are they will not have the tools necessary to handle their emotions, follow rules, and interact with adults and their peers. By building the social-emotional library in my classroom, you are providing all of the students' access to the tools necessary to be successful in school and at home. Teaching social-emotional skills through literacy will help meet the needs of many students. The books that are part of this project will be used in weekly lessons about different parts of social-emotional learning. We will use the anchor text for a week-long discussion about a specific social-emotional learning skill.
