The changes to the classroom environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic are numerous. One of the most notable ways that it has affected the classes of myself and my colleagues is that it has distanced us from our classes not only physically and has changed how we plan and execute our lessons and how we communicate and collaborate with our classes. Luckily, there are so many resources that allow instructors to reach their students and continue to engage students in exciting, innovative, and accessible ways despite the distance. One of the best resources that I have encountered is the Brainpop educational platform and based on its offerings I feel that it would be best suited for the diverse groups of students that I teach. Brainpop is a web application that presents information in a visual manner which would be of great benefit for my diverse students many of which are ENL students. It provides a learning experience that is engaging and exciting and presents topics in a manner that is accessible due to the way that it is presented. Activities such as learning games, and instructional videos allow students to be the center of learning. Brainpop presents instructional materials across different disciplines in all four content areas and beyond which increases the opportunities for interdisciplinary instruction and provides opportunities for students to be assessed whether they are in-person, remote, or learning in the hybrid model.
