These supplies will help the students actively take part in navigating their thoughts and feelings in healthy and supportive ways. I would begin by introducing a lesson on Social Emotional awareness. Through independent reading and read a louds using the following books: "What Color is Your Day?" by Camryn Wells, "My Many Colored Days" by Dr Seuss, "Dr Seuss's Book of Colors", "My Sometimes Feelings" By Leah Chana Rubabshi, "The Color Monster" by Anna Llenas, "All the Colors of my Feelings" by Kelly Moron, "My Feelings and Me" by Holsw Kreul, and "I am a Rainbow" by Dolly Parton. The lesson would also include opportunities for whole group, small group, and one on one discussions. After the book is read and any discussions are finished, I would ask the students to paint a picture of how they are feeling. While the students are painting, I will ask them to explain why they chose the colors they are using. Then, while the paintings dry I would ask them to write a couple of sentences either about their work or about how they feel after finishing it. After the activity has been introduced and practiced the expression of emotions art option will be used on an as-needed basis.
