  • New Media for the Art Room

    Funded Nov 6, 2021

    Wow! I've never felt so equipped in my art room. It has been a blast exploring new types of media with my students. My advanced art students completed a rigorous acrylic painting unit, resulting in collaborative paintings that represent our school values. We are in the process of hanging them in the public hallways for the school to enjoy!

    My intermediate students have enjoyed trying out oil pastels for the first time. Thanks to DonorsChoose, every student was able to have their own palette of pastels to work with. They also were able to study charcoal and created some great skeletal drawings.

    I am excited to continue with all these new mediums. I'm most excited for my advanced class to try linoleum block printing. The starter kit we received is going to make this accessible in my classroom for years to come. I can't wait to see how they embrace this exciting medium!

My art students spent an entire year developing their skills from home. They did wonderfully and we found lots of creative ways to do art together from a distance, but there's nothing like being back in the art room! I'd like to use these funds to purchase new media for students to develop their skills by filling in the gaps from during distance learning, but also expand them further than we've ever been able to before. Our art room is small, but the more fun and engaging materials we can collect, the more my students will learn and grow.
