A color printer is a necessity in preschool. Preschoolers need to learn concepts such as matching, shapes, colors, numbers and letters. Preschoolers also need to begin describing items using two adjectives. For example, a red square, a blue fish, a yellow duck. Preschoolers need concrete objects and hands on materials to grasp concepts and developing a strong vocabulary. I currently teach in an urban school district where my students have diverse learning needs. In order to reach each student where they are developmentally, I need to create hands on materials that go along with stories so students can retell using visuals, thematic units-so that when we are doing a theme of community helpers (or any theme), the students can have visuals and activities that go along with our classroom theme. The printer will also benefit students who are learning at home. Currently, I have been making paper packets for students who are at home so they can access the curriculum. Parents of remote learners come to the school to pick up paper packets that are made for them and they complete them during our virtual small group time. Having access to a color printer in my classroom will give my students more activities to do and allow for more opportunities to differentiate based on each students needs.
