Making Math Meaningful
Funded Dec 20, 2011The students and I would like to thank you again for your generous donation to our classroom project. The students have been enjoying the new materials and are reviewing Math concepts in a fun and meaningful way. The 3D solid figures/geometric shapes have been a great way for the students to review how many edges, faces and vertices are on a given shape. They also work together to determine if the solid figures will stack, slide or roll. The students strengthen their addition skills by using the "Dice in Dice" tub to add two digit numbers together. The Brainteasers activities are a class favorite! My students find the activities challenging but they thrive on challenges. I notice that the students will work with a partner to solve difficult puzzles. It's great to see them working together to accomplish a goal. Thanks again for making a difference in the lives of my students.

Funded Mar 22, 2012The magnets arrived today and we couldn't wait to explore how they worked! In our Science lesson this week we studied about magnets so the magnets came at just the right time. The classroom was set up into 5 different center areas for the students to explore the materials. The students worked very well together to experiment with the magnets. They discovered the power of the magnetic force as it traveled through a solid, liquid and gas. They were curious to see what items could be picked up with a magnet and which could not. This lead to wonderful discussions between the students. It was great to see students working together to form a hypothesis and checking to see what would happen by experimenting. The collaboration was just as I had hoped it would be. Thanks again for your generous donation to our classroom project!”

Funded Dec 14, 2011Thank you again for your generous donation. The wonderful technology we received has greatly enhanced our classroom experience. The wireless listening center works great with our new Magic Tree House listening library collection. Students are now able hear books on CD or songs that practice skills in a fun and engaging way while sitting anywhere in the classroom. Students use the digital voice recorder to record their own stories or to record each other reading books. These recording are saved and can be heard again for other students to enjoy. The students and I are so thankful to you for supporting our classroom project!”

Funded Jan 28, 2012The Magic Tree House collection of books and listening library CDs arrived and the students absolutely love them! What a wonderful addition to our classroom library. It's hard to keep these books on the shelf. The combination of having the books and the CDs is great because the CDs really bring the stories to life. We use these books in several ways. First, students have been using them in literature circles. Students lead discussions and make predictions about what will happen to the characters or make connections to past stories. Additionally, having the listening library has been helpful for struggling readers, too. Those readers will listen to a chapter and then reread that same chapter on their own. For some students, hearing the the audio version prior to reading the story has really improved their confidence. Overall, these books have made a long-lasting impression on the students and created a life-long love for reading.Thank you again for you generous support! The students and I truly appreciate it. ”

Funded Nov 30, 2011The smiles on the students' faces were a mile wide when our new PE equipment arrived. This is all thanks to you and your generous donation and support towards our classroom project.
Ever since our new PE equipment arrived the students have been on the go with fun, fitness and flexibility. The PE cart stores all of the wonderful equipment and we roll it right out to the playground in the afternoon. They warm-up with the activity mats that have them practice different skills from skipping to squatting. The students are increasing their endurance as they jump rope, hula hoop and bounce balls through an obstacle course of cones. We practice skills for soccer, basketball, T-ball, kickball and handball. They are excited to learn the rules for these sports and have been learning the importance of teamwork, cooperation and good sportsmanship. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of my students. We truly appreciate it!”

Funded Dec 19, 2011The students and I absolutely LOVE the new Social Studies books! They are such a wonderful addition to our classroom library. The students have gained a lot of knowledge as they read the biographies about famous people throughout history. During class discussions students will reference the books, too. The books about American Symbols and Continents are beautifully photographed and provide detailed and informative facts that are written in an easy to understand, kid-friendly way. Thanks again for bringing the world to my students. They have been inspired by the people, places and events that they have read about. This was all made possible by your kindness and generosity towards our class. Thanks again for supporting our classroom project!

Funded Dec 20, 2011The students and I would like to thank you again for supporting our classroom project. The Math materials have been a great addition to our class! The best part of the "At My Seat Math Games" is that the students get a great review of Math concepts in a fun and engaging way. On days when it rains and the students are indoors it's the first thing they choose as their activity. The design of the games is wonderful because the directions are simple for them to follow and the outcome is different every time. The combination of these two great features allows the students to work independently, build their confidence and give them repeated practice on their Math skills. When other teachers have visited my room it's the first thing they ask about. I have talked so highly about the growth I have seen from the students using it, that 3 of my colleagues created projects for their own classroom! Their students are now enjoying the experience as much as mine. Thank you again for your kindness and generosity towards our class!

Funded Dec 8, 2011I knew that the students were going to like the new readers' theater scripts but I didn't anticipate how much they were going to LOVE the scripts!
The partner scripts have been such a hit. I have enjoyed watching students pair up or work in small groups to practice their fluency. I have noticed the same students reading their favorite script for several days in a row but choosing a different partner each time. This repeated practice has really improved their fluency. Also, when rainy days keep us indoors for recess the students always ask if they can use the scripts. It's the first item they choose when they can't go outside. Finally, we have been lucky enough to have theater class for the next few months. I'm hoping through theater we can bring some of these scripts to life!
Once again, the students and I thank you for supporting our classroom project!
