Weather Watchers
Funded Oct 26, 2022Thank you to all of our generous DonorsChoose supporters! Mrs. Mitchell wanted to share that having our new weather station on our campus allows all of our scholars the opportunity to learn core meteorological concepts using data collected by weather instruments. This weather station allows us to monitor indoor and outdoor conditions, including wind speed, wind direction, rainfall, UV, solar radiation, barometric pressure, indoor/outdoor temperature (F and C), indoor/outdoor humidity, and more. Our gardening scholars will use this information to help us determine when to plant our crops and discover why weather conditions play such an important role in the success of our garden!”

Growing Organically, Academically and Mentally in the Gardens
Funded May 25, 2022Mrs. Mitchell, our amazing master gardener, was so grateful to receive the new gardening materials this year. She shared that the students are using the new Soil Block Maker to plant kale and rainbow chard seeds. Using soil blocks makes seed planting very efficient and helps us to use less plastic in the garden. Our seeds had a 100% germination rate while using the seed blocks! Additionally, the students are planting sugar snap peas in our new cloth growing bags. These bags allow for better air circulation and the side panel viewing area lets us examine the roots of the crops. The peas are growing very fast in the cloth grow bags and we should be harvesting very soon! Finally, the students are learning all about vermicomposting while using our Worm Factory Bin. This bin helps us to discover the importance of composting by making good use of our food waste at the school. We will use the collected fertilizer on our garden beds to help our vegetables and fruits grow strong and healthy! The students and I can't thank you enough for donating and supporting our beautiful gardens here on the campus.”

Funded Sep 17, 2020Saying "thank you" does not even begin to express how much these items mean to me and my students as we navigate through distance learning. The document camera is used all day, every day to project my lessons for the students to see. My previous document camera was old, tired, and not compatible with zoom. When the school year began, I was worried about how to meet the students' needs when my technology wasn't up to date. Thanks to your generosity, you took the worry and stress out of my day and filled it with the ease and simplicity of this great device. It's so simple to use, clear as can be and has many features that enhance my lessons. Please know how much I appreciate your kindness in supporting my classroom project.”

Funded Apr 18, 2018Our first opportunity to use the microphone and PA system came during our class play. It was a warm day and the classroom was crowded with parents ready to watch the performance. We had the air conditioner running and it was a bit noisy because of it. Luckily, all the children could be heard because their voices were projected loud and clear. I know the parents were pleased to capture a clear, crisp video where they could easily hear their child speak.
Since that time, we have used the microphone to share All About Me bags that the students presented the first week of school. We have plans to use it again next week as they recite their poetry. Finally, on a daily basis the microphone is used for reading. The students are eager to read knowing they will get an opportunity to use the PA system.
The students and I want to thank you again for supporting us on this project.”

Discovering the World Around Us
Funded Dec 16, 2015The Studies Weekly program brings real world stories right to our classroom. The rich vocabulary and photographs give the students clarity to unfamiliar people, places and events. Additionally, the students are able to read the content either in paper form or can scan the QR code to view it in digital form. This material explores concepts in a kid friendly way. The students find the questions on the back very helpful when self-monitoring their comprehension on the topic. Having a publication like this at our fingertips has been great!”

Blooming Artists
Funded Dec 22, 2015This project was started so my students could create their own masterpiece. They had studied the life of Vincent Van Gogh and were inspired by his work, his use of bright colors (especially yellow) and his love of sunflowers. My students really enjoyed these watercolor pencils to add the details on the petals, stem and leaves. The range of colors and shades allowed them to color in the brightness of a new bloom or the sadness of a wilting sunflower. They were able to try different techniques for mixing and blending to develop a texture on the various parts of the sunflower. The ultimate display was at our Open House for their parents to see. The students were proud to have their work in frames and mounted to the wall. They took pride in their work and were excited to have such a beautiful piece for their art portfolio to take home at the end of the year.”

"Projecting" a Bright Future
Funded Feb 13, 2015My students and I were excited to receive our new LCD projector. They noticed right away how bright, clear and crisp the projected images were compared to our old machine.
Since receiving the projector our classroom has become more engaging and alive. My students have been most impressed by the ability to project work they've completed in class. Additionally, the projector is equipped with HDMI technology so I can also connect the applet to the projector as well. I can use my laptop to present PowerPoint lessons or share images from the internet. We use the projector for every subject and we would be lost without it.
I appreciate all of the wonderful donations that were given for this project.”

It's About Time!
Funded Sep 15, 2014Thank you so much for all you have done for my students. Your donation towards our classroom project has meant so much. One of the standards students are expected to know is telling time as well as elapsed time. Now we have the tools we need to make that happen! Students are able to move the clock hands themselves to gain a better understanding of this concept. Having these individual clocks means students don't have to share materials or take turns. I'm thrilled to be able to incorporate these clocks into our lesson.”
