Please consider funding this project to use poetry to transition students back into the English classroom after a year in distance learning. The materials in this project are ones that support the fun, collaborative craft of writing in the learning environment. Students will have personal journals for use in the development of their own craft, at home or in school, and the magnetic poetry, chalk and white boards can be used on site in collaborative ways that maintain distance and safety. As we transition back into the classroom from distance learning, having tools for expression and connection as we reconnect with and strengthen our community will be crucial at a time of uncertainty in aspects of our city and larger world. Students can be contemplative and private with their thoughts in their journals, can share poetry with the community using chalk, or can be playful with magnetic words. Collaborative work and writing becomes safer, too, with the white boards. There are many more ideas that I have, along with those that I hope to develop in collaboration with the students!
