Young children are active learners that need to touch, feel, experience, and create to learn, the reason why play is essential for their development. Sociodramatic play centers allow young children to make symbolic representations of their world, develop problem-solving skills, use language, and learn about other people (role-taking). Sociodramatic play fosters children's intellectual, social-emotional, and physical development.
The Baby-Care Dramatic Play Center will provide my students with the opportunity to provide safety and care for the babies while taking the role of adults during their pretend and playtime.
Some of the Texas Pre-Kindergarten Guidelines the Baby-Care Dramatic Play Center will cover are:
VII.B.2. Child demonstrates that all people need food, clothing, and shelter.

I.B.2.a. Child begins to understand the difference and connection between emotions/feelings and behaviors.
I.B.3.b. Child remains focused on engaging in group activities for up to 20 minutes at a time.
I.C.1. Child uses effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills to build relationships with teachers/adults.
I.C.3. Child shows competence in initiating social interactions.
I.C.4. Child increasingly interacts and communicates with peers to initiate pretend play scenarios that share a common plan and goal.
