I want to provide thematic centers around the room for students to explore and create on their own. Access to culturally diverse books in a reading cubby, sensory materials at a "Makerspace" table, and an art center will make an ocean of difference for our classroom. The books requested compliment our class theme, while also teaching lessons of diversity, curiosity, and how to be good stewards of our environment. I want them to see characters and themes that reflect who they are as individuals, empower them to explore, and bring us together as a class community. As students adjust to the classroom after a long period of isolation, it is important that they feel safe and comforted. The sea animal hand puppets will be used alongside books for storytelling, dramatic play, and social emotional learning activities. They will also provide shy students with a “reading buddy” to have at their desk during independent reading time. Kinetic sand and sensory materials will support all students in building fine motor coordination, team building, and social skills. Art supplies will allow my 2nd graders to express their creativity and imagination, turning our classroom into an ocean of art they can be proud of together. After over a year of distance learning on the computers - it is vital to support our little ones with these hands-on experiences! Like a school of fish, we send out our wish for you to support our class project. Every little bit helps! Thank you.
