Kinetic Sand for Little Hands
Funded Dec 4, 2023Thank you so much for funding my project, Kinetic Sand for Little Hands. My students absolutely love having their individual boxes to dig in and find hidden treasures! The majority of my students have developmental delays and significant learning disabilities. Having their own boxes allows them to fulfill their sensory needs. Additionally, having the tweezers and small toys encourages my students to use their fine motor skills.
My school is in an urban district that has continuously high numbers of Covid cases, and having group sand tables is not an option. However, now they are able to still explore with sand in a safe and healthy way. Right now my students are using the tweezers to dig for certain wooden shapes and small dinosaurs. Soon we will be starting a Growing unit and we will practice planting seeds in our boxes.
Thank you so very much for your incredible generosity. Please know how much your donation is appreciated. It is a wonderful feeling to be able to provide this activity for my students, not only to satisfy their sensory needs, but to also be able to safely dig in and explore with sand.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kathy
This classroom project was brought to life by A family that cares about Boston and 2 other donors.Special Students Seeking Extra Special Donations!
Funded Mar 11, 2021Simply saying "thank you" does not truly convey the impact your gift has had on my students. As I said in my initial request, I am a teacher in an urban, low-income city with limited resources for a variety of classroom equipment and toys. I am a special education Preschool teacher in a classroom of severely disabled students. All of my students have a communication disorder, and virtually all of them have autism. They are unable to communicate verbally.
When I first brought in the color crayons, my students faces lit up! They love the different colors, and are using them to do various sorting activities. The emotion blocks are having a huge impact--my students are able to use them to help communicate their feelings. The highlights of my classroom are now the airplane and crocodile sensory boards! My students love them! These items are especially helpful when a student needs to take some independent space away from the rest of the group. I have them set up in my room in such a way that they are low enough for my kids to reach them--and they are used all day long! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kathy
