My school currently does not have technology available to print everyday assignments, tools, and visuals in color for our students.
All of my students require support visually, socially, emotionally, and in order to maintain focus for more than 30 seconds - materials and visuals in color are considered "essential" in my classroom.
Students in my room who are working on specific reading goals require color materials to assist with letter/sound identification, sight word identification, decoding skills, reading passages, reading comprehension, and even chunking up sections on a page to assist those with anxiety.
Students in my room who are working on specific math goals require color materials to assist with color identification, pattern identification, shape identification, number identification, addition/subtraction, and chunking up math problems to ease anxiety when given a full page of math work.
My students who are working on writing and social-emotional goals require color materials as well. My writing students will benefit from colored lines for their writing passages in order to appropriately place their letters on the given lines. My students with social-emotional goals will be able to benefit with emotion identification, social stories, and other self-regulating activities and tools.
Aside from specific goals and subjects - colored visuals provide additional opportunities for my students to be able to be integrated within their general education peers. With visually appealing tools and materials to maximize their focus in class, they will be able to maintain appropriate and safe learner behaviors within their homerooms, specials, and overall peer to peer interaction activities.
My students will truly benefit from visuals and materials in color. This opportunity could assist in supporting these essential concepts to our students for the rest of their academic journey!
