Help Special Needs Students Have Hands-on Sensory Experiences!

Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you so very much for the abundance in resources that you have funded. They have benefited greatly and it has brought joy to their days. For example, with the books provided, they have been enjoying story-time. They have connected with the characters and learned the moral of the stories. For example, I have read from the famous Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree" in Spanish ("El Arbol Generoso') which can be very meaningful for most of my students since Spanish is their first and home language. Moreover, I have also been bringing humor to my students by reading from Silverstein's "Falling Up", a compilation of children's poems. Humor and joy is so essential for most of my students who are mostly and severely health compromised. Additionally, the hands on materials help my students through tactile, hands on experiences to acquire developmentally appropriate early literacy and early numeracy concepts. For example, the hunting-for-letters kit teach them how to discriminate each letter so that they can learn what they look like and eventually associate sounds to each. Furthermore, it will help them get closer towards learning word families, to blend and eventually read on their own. So thank you again so very much for selecting them to support. You made a difference in their lives.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Nikki
