Students who are remote-only learners will have supplies sent home. The students will fill their planting pots with soil and plant their seed. Over the course of the year the students will be responsible for watering their plant and making sure it gets enough sunlight. By having the students grow a plant from a seed, it shows them responsibility, a sense of purpose, the feeling of accomplishment, and mindfulness. Research shows that gardening is a stress reliever, it builds self-confidence, and it positively impacts mood and psychological well-being. Gardening also gives students an opportunity they might not have in an urban community.
