  • Employment Skills for Students with Disabilities

    Funded Jun 26, 2023

The scanner has been a fantastic addition to our office/clerical work station. My students are learning to scan and save documents. It has taught them sequencing of complete a multi-step task. The technology keeps them engaged as they love to use tech on an ongoing basis. Some of my students have difficulty engaging socially with others and scanning and archiving documents is a viable employment option for them. It is something that will fit within their comfort zone, and they do well with clearly delineated tasks/steps.

I am so very grateful for your kindness and generosity to my students. These young adults are flourishing with the support of people like yourselves. Their sense of accomplishment and purpose is palpable when they acquire these new skills. Please know you have had a hand in making their lives better.”

  • Building Employability Skills for Students with Special Needs

    Funded Dec 8, 2022

My students were incredibly excited to get all the new merchandise for our in school gift shop. They worked on sorting the items, stocking the shelves, labeling the items and shelves. They took weekly inventory to restock the shelves. With the multitude of items provided they were able to practice the skills for weeks. they money made from selling the items came right back to the program.

Have the items allowed the students to also practice customer service skills as well as money skills in using a cash register. So many skills were gained in a real life manner rather than just an in class simulation.

With the proceeds from the items sold we paid for community based instruction activities such as visiting stores to see how stocking and inventory is done in an actual store. We also enjoyed enrichment activities such as museum admissions.

I am so very grateful for the opportunity my students were afforded by this kind and generous donation. You gave our students with disabilities an opportunity to grow and flourish and for that I am so thankful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Maruja Gonzalez

  • Let’s Build Clerical Employment Skills

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

My students were so excited to have new equipment to work with in class. We had several lessons on the importance of disposing of personal or confidential information carefully.

I used it as an employability skill as well. We offered a shredding service to the teachers in our hallway. Several brought papers they needed shredded from class and from home for security and confidentiality. Kids learned how to handle the shredder safely, making sure to remove staples and paper clips before shredding. It has been a wonderful learning tool and spectacular addition to our office center in class.

I am so very grateful to our donor for allowing my students to learn valuable life and employment skills.”

  • Laminate for Good Health

    Funded Jun 10, 2021

We used the laminating machine to practice office skills. Our program focuses on employment skills for young adults with varying disabilities ( autism, intellectual disabilities, visual impairments, etc). In our office skills center the students learn to file, laminate, sort and staple, and make copies. The laminating machine was a wonderful addition as students learned safety skills and employment skills as well as skills for leisure activities.

Our students take pride in their business enterprise. They feel very accomplished when school staff praise their work.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Maruja Gonzalez

This second teacher screen will facilitate my effectiveness as a teacher. It would allow me to multitask and be both more effective and more efficient. I can monitor student progress and provide lesson enhancement on one screen while I can conduct the more mundane daily administrative tasks of attendance, responding to emails, reaching out to parents and students, etc on the other. Conducting all business one screen often detracts from my lesson development as it makes it a bit choppy when I have to flip back and forth between tabs.
