One of my personal goals as a teacher is to instill in my students the importance of language and writing. Many middle and high school age students do not realize the importance of writing, grammar, and language. In fact, they do not realize just how much literacy effects their every day lives. It is with these tools that I am requesting that will help these young minds be successful, advanced literate adults. Research shows that the simple pen and paper is one of the most effective forms of learning, and I plan to add to that. I believe you should have one creative outlet a day. In my class, we always start out with a journal prompt. Students have the freedom to be as creative as possible with their writing. Sadly, many students only have limited resources to do free write. Students have their Chromebook and Google software to type out their responses, sadly there is a disconnect from their brain to the screen in this matter of writing. If students have the simple notebook, a whole new world of expansion begins in the brain. Not only can students become more literate with the simple method of writing down their responses, they can color, scrap book, or whatever else they would like to do. All of the supplies I am requesting will go to their journaling, but they will also go into all facets of learning in my classroom. I will be able to make class sets of worksheets with the paper protectors, make writer workshops easier, and students can accomplish harder tasks with the ability to use dry erase markers on them. Since we do not have a large paper budget at my school, this will be a life saver.
