Snacks for Scholars
Funded Dec 8, 2023The scholars here at New Heights Middle School are so incredibly grateful for your generous donation. With your help we have been able to stock the school store with snacks and treats for almost 3 months (and we still have some left!) I find it so humbling that you thought it was a worthwhile cause.
As you know, hungry students can't learn and unfortunately as a Title I school with a large homeless (and now migrant) population, many of our students arrive hungry. And while we provide them with both breakfast and lunch, an afternoon snack goes a long way. Thank you for helping provide those snacks. That little extra boost of energy has helped improve engagement and focus.
Furthermore, by making snacks a part of our Core Value store, students are incentivized to follow our core values of Citizenship, Responsibility, Relentless Pursuit, Respect and Optimism. Any student that is "caught doing good" can earn points and use them to buy the snacks you provided- as a result we've seen an increase in points and a decrease in behavioral referrals. This has helped them become better members of our community. Students are so eager to earn scholar dollars on the PBIS app. It also helps those students who don't have the money to buy snacks at the regular store like their peers. There have been so many benefits to our school community from your donation. We can't thank you enough!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hagler
It's Time to Show Your E-Work
Funded Feb 9, 2021In NYC, middle school students were required to work remotely for about 3 months of the school year. Even after schools were opened again, we had to contend with school closures due to positive covid tests. During this time, your donation of lap desks helped improve the home school environment for those students who don't have the privilege of a private space, a desk or even a permanent flat space to work on during remote learning. Even as we progress into reopening schools full time, your contribution will be useful for giving those students some stability while completing homework.
The styluses that were donated were a HUGE hit as well. We used them in combination with Peardeck software and it allowed the students' tablets, ipads and laptops to become digital whiteboards. This made completing math problems so much easier both while they were working from home and after we returned to the building as we integrated technology into our lessons. In fact, as a result, math teachers in other grades began requesting styluses as well. We are even using part of a community grant we just received for next year to give ALL students a stylus after administration saw the impact.
Your help has added some much needed ease to a chaotic year filled with so many other remote learning related problems!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hagler
