This hands-on technology will engage and empower students as they return to in-person learning. Importantly, students of all skill levels are able to use this technology and do so with partners and groups. What I have learned as a teacher is that the best student experiences occur when students can apply their learning in the classroom to the world around them. My Exploratory Video Production course allows students to learn the fundamentals of film and use their voice to share about what matters most to them. They are responsible creating personal narratives, PSAs, and interviews throughout the year which are often submitted to state and national competitions. During COVID and distance learning, students were unable to access the technology they need, and as a result, many had to borrow devices or find alternatives to film for media projects. As the video production courses move more towards utilizing the hand-held devices for students, we, as media teachers, must think about how we can innovate and further enhance the video learning experience outside of the phone. As a result, the items I request here reflect this technology transition. Students can capture aerial angles using the DJI Mini 2 or action shots using the DJI Action. The DJ OM 3 works alongside students smartphones' to stabilize their current image and produce a more professional shot. Students will be able to match their creativity and innovation with this technology in their showcases, competitions, and class projects. Experiences that would not have been possible last year with distance learning.
