The DK books are full of images and easy to read text that makes my student's interests spark in these fields. Students are encourage and want to read from our class library when ever they finish their work early. The little bookcase that was part of the purchase also makes it possible to hold my Spanish Medical Themed books neatly. The wall displays also let my visual learners to gravitate to the titles easier. Since the bookcase and the wall displays needed to be assembled and secured, my school to helped me with this task, it was totally worth it! These additions to my room are both exciting and beautifully. Thank you once again!”

Funded Apr 17, 2024I am going to share the story of the "light covers." When I received the package I waited until afterschool to set up the light covers. The next day as my student's walked in through the door they were completely thrown off! They were not sure if they liked the lighting or the hated it. Once they sat down I told them "Look, I want to make sure I make some physical changes in my classroom that will help all my learners succeed." I told them "There are some students that have light sensitivities and that can interfere with their learning. Sometimes the light from out devices and the harsh light from the fluorescent lights also cause migraines. So tell me? Should we leave it or take it down?" They sat there quietly and so I told them "Ok if it is too weird of a light filter I'll take it down." So I went over to the first one and was about to start taking one off when suddenly one my students told me "No, Ms., leave them I actually feel like my eyes are taking a break from the harsh lights." Then more students raised their hands and said "Yes, leave them Ms." and it was like this all day long with each period. Thank you for providing these tools to make positive changes for my students and for also allowing me to advocate and spread sensory awareness.”

Supplies, Treats, and Prizes!
Funded May 17, 2024The items that were donated to the class serve numerous benefits the raffle tickets help incentivize learning without the use of extra credit. After students play a game as a team, as partners or against their partners; students earn tickets that go into a bag for a raffle we hold each Friday. The prizes are the items that you also donated such as stickers and allergy free lollipops (which honestly even though they are high schoolers they actually love). This year I also started a new "spreading kindness choice" where they can choose two (2 lollipops or 2 stickers or 1 of each) which they can keep or give to one of their peers. This has made the climate of my classroom feel positive and motivating. Thank you for gifts like these that help learning feel easy and fun! The magnets also help display student work on the board. This makes them feel good because it is almost like the class refrigerator where their work is proudly shown. I also stamp their work before returning it to them with a special stamp that says "Your work was displayed! Mrs. Sanchez says great job!" The sanitizing wipes are also a big help since they have a Kleenex station where they can clean their hands after wiping their nose. I and my students thank you so much for taking time to donate and make a difference in my student's lives.”

Funded Nov 17, 2023Having a Chromebook to work on for most their classes can get tiring after having so much screen time. Giving my students more paper and hand activities has made them feel also more creative in the sense that they are putting in the physical effort to write the letters to draw the lines when doing a project. Thank you for your donations to my classroom and my students. Getting these materials have made it possible for more students to use tools like: pens, pencils and color pencils for their work. Transitioning back to things like hand and paper have made a huge positive impact, thank you!”

Funded Sep 21, 2023One nice thing about my room is that we have a skylight that allows natural light in. However it is the only real window in my classroom so when the AC system is down not having side windows to open become a problem. Thank you so much for your donation getting these 2 cooling fans has helped my classroom become more comfortable during the hot weather. Additionally even when they room feels stuffy its helps ventilate by circulating new air into our room. My students feel comfortable knowing that they have a cool classroom to learn in.”

Funded Sep 11, 2023The materials that were donated to my classroom and to my students have helped us in so many ways. For example I requested color printer paper to create "libritos." I provided a picture of how we set these up after we fold and staple them. It has been an interesting experience seeing them get so focused on making sure they make their "libritos" aligned and done correctly. These "libritos" have made it easier for my students to have essential information for each chapter such as: culture, vocabulary, notes and any additional information that we learned for that chapter.
Later in the Fall semester, for "Día de los Muertos" our school's Spanish Club created an "altar" with handmade "papel picado" and "paper flowers." This was made possible with the donations of the "tissue paper." It was so beautiful to see how this Mexican Cultural Tradition was shared for our school and student's to see.
The third picture was a little project that I had my Advisory students do to end the semester. I had them create "Christmas/Holiday Ornament Decorations" as a Social Emotional Learning activity. I had my students paint something Holiday related and then they had to use the drying rack that was donated to us to let their work dry out. I was so amazed at the creativity that they used to make them and their dedication to detail. The picture provided shows a "gingerbread house" that was the size of a dime!
I want to once again thank you for your generosity, all of the donations received are essential and placed a huge smile in my student's face. Additionally these have allowed my students to have new art and hands-on learning experiences.”

Funded Mar 14, 2023I want to take the time to say thank you for giving my students this incredible gift of medical supplies to recreate the scene of what it regularly looks like when you visit a doctor's office (in Spanish). This lesson took 2 days the first day we went over the basics of taking blood pressure we saw some videos and even had a guest speaker come and demonstrate in-person how to take someone's blood pressure. On the second day my students had an amazing time taking on different roles: doctor, nurse, and the patient's and going over illnesses and recommendations.
This experience brings up two wonderful memories one of my favorite memories was seeing the look of amazement in one of my student's eyes when he checked his peer's blood pressure and heard their heart beat for the first time. The second was when my student who was taking on the role of the doctor really took the role and was making some very interesting suggestions some were humorous and some were very thorough. Making this lesson plan possible with your generous donations helped me and my students have a more hands-on real world experience.”

Bring Work to Life With Color!
Funded Oct 11, 2022Thank you so much for your donation of the the color printer and ink. Having a printer in my classroom has brought color and excitement to my room. I have attached 2 pictures of the work that my students' produced. One of the images is for my Spanish 2 class where they had a medical themed lesson and asked their patients how they were feeling I was able to print the emotions to show gradual levels of pain. Additionally having a tool like a high quality printer in my room has also allowed me to print out activities for my students to work. In the other picture there is an example of my Spanish 1 students working on "telling time," and "creating a dialogue story." My "Advisory period" has also benefited from this printer since I have been able to have work on social emotional activities. This gift has definitely help my students in many other ways, they too print documents that they need whether that is sports application or recommendation letters for colleges and/or other programs. Than you very much for this gift as you see it is a tool that has helped us this academic year and will continue to have a lot of use in the years to come.”

Setting Up My Social Emotional Learning Classroom
Funded Jul 4, 2022You donation for my Social Emotional Learning project helped change the "vibe" in my classroom.
My former students who had been in my previous "Green Room" have come by to visit me and as they walk in they have smiles and tell me that my classroom looks and feels more open and calm.
I feel that my classroom now projects how I want my students to feel when they come in. The are posters in the walls now say "Take a deep breath and try again," "Everyone is different, everyone belongs," and "Be kind." When students are learning a new language they often feel scared to pronounce new words or have a conversation in Spanish. The posters are reminders to embrace their differences, to be kind to themselves and to keep on trying.
These materials have also made me feel different about my classroom. I feel happy coming to my classroom. The decorations have also made an impact on me, looking at the walls on my room with new bulletin paper, posters, positive messages, have given a fresh start to my profession thank you.”
