  • Literature in Music

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thank you so much for donating these music books to our music library! We use these books for many different things. So far, we have used them in music centers and students got to pick one of the books to read from the music library. My students loved reading the new books and especially enjoyed looking at the illustrations to songs we have done in class, such as "My Aunt Came Back" and "It's a Wonderful World." I loved hearing the students point to each word as they remembered the lyrics to the song.

I have many more projects lined up for these books. In January when we start our instrument unit, I will read to them "Trombone Shorty" "Playing at the Border," and "The Man with the Violin" so they will learn about the musicians and their music. I will also ask questions from the book help their reading comprehension. I will also read "King Ragtime" when we discuss composer Scott Joplin. For my students in grades 4 and 5, I am planning on having them work in groups and make a poster on what they learned about their musician or style of music in the book.

We are very excited to have some fresh literature in our library and more books to cover a wide range of music topics for all the music units! Thanks to your support we will have a year full of music and books!”

  • Folders for Everyone

    Funded Jul 16, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donations to help my classes get music folders. Thanks to these donations, my students are currently making music portfolios. Every time my students do music classwork, projects, or tests, the papers get put in their folders. This has helped my students stay organized and understand how they are doing in music. Any time my students ask how they are doing in my class, I direct them to their folder and have them tell me how they think they are doing. These folders also came in handy for our first parent teacher conferences. When a parent had a question about a student's grade, I took out their child's folder and showed them what they have been doing. The folders have also been a great review tool for my students. My students know what to study for the test and it even has been a great review tool for their current classwork.

My students were so excited to get music folders this year and really enjoy personalizing and decorating their own folder. They are looking forward to taking their music portfolios home at the end of the year. They love looking at everything they have learned and accomplished this school year! Thank you again for supporting my classroom!”

  • Basic Supplies

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Thank you so much for all of your donations to help get my class tissues, pencils, glue sticks, and crayons. These basic supplies have helped restock my classroom for the last several months. The tissues came just in time and have come in handy with all of the colds and sniffles we have had this year. It has been a life saver for me to have these tissues this year! It seems like we go through a box a week! It also has been super handy to have pre-sharpened pencils to give to student any time they need a new pencil. Since I have Kindergarten through fifth grade, my classes go through a lot of pencils. Also, it was so nice to be able to restock my crayons and glue sticks before I went on maternity leave. Now, I know the substitute will have enough materials for the students the whole year!

My students were super excited to have new tissues, pencils, crayons, and glue sticks to use for the rest of the year! Everything was getting low and the new supplies helped motivate them to do better in my class! Recently, my students enjoyed making ice cream cones using dynamics and form sandwiches with these new supplies. They are super thankful and can't wait to use these supplies for upcoming music projects! Thank you again for your kindness, support, and generosity to my music classes!”

  • Musical Instruments for Music Making

    Funded Aug 23, 2022

Thank you so much for all of the instruments you have donated to my classroom! Since receiving these instruments, my students have been using these instruments a lot in their melody unit this year. We have been playing many melodies on the bells and boom whackers. Some songs include "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," "Doggie Doggie," and "Lucy Locket." My students also enjoyed using these instruments for our Christmas fun week. We played several Christmas tunes with these instruments. My fourth graders even used the new rhythm sticks to play an instrumental piece in our Christmas concert called "Rudolph's Coming to Town."

Every time I get the instruments out that you donated, my students get very excited! They love playing these instruments and we are so grateful that everyone can have a bell or boom whacker at the same time. Before your donation, I did not have enough instruments to give to everyone. My students are also loving the instrument center I have added. Each center, I include a playing or composition center that features a certain instrument. Recently my students enjoyed creating their own melodies with bells. Your donation will continue to bring smiles and excitement for years to come! Thank you!”

  • iPad Music Workstation

    Funded Jun 18, 2022

Thank you so much for all of your donations to my Ipad music workstation. This year my students have had the chance to play multiple music games, play boom cards, and create music with the Ipad. I use the Ipad in my technology workstation so students can practice different musical skills at their level and pace. Thanks to the Ipad, I am able to easily differentiate music activities for my students. The Ipad also allows me to individually assess my students as well. With Seesaw and boom cards, I can assign musical tasks and get every student's individual score and data instantly.

My students love using the Ipads and can't wait to get to that music station when we have center day. They enjoy playing the music games and music apps designed to review specific music skills because they see them as fun! They also like that they can practice a skill on their own in privacy without students watching or listening in to their answers. In this workstation, my students also enjoy that they can use the Ipad the entire time and they do not have to wait their turn to answer.

I have a lot of plans for using my Ipad and I look forward to having my students create musical compositions on "Garage Band" and creating loop rhythms and melodies. I am also planning on using this Ipad for plickers in my class as well as helping monitor behavior in my classroom. Thank you so much for giving my classes the chance to use more technology in the music classroom! It is helping so much!”

  • Buckets of Fun

    Funded Feb 8, 2022

Thanks to your generous donations my students have been having fun learning and performing music through bucket drums. So far, my students in grades first through fifth have had the chance to play and perform rhythms with the bucket drums. They have not only had the chance to learn how to drum properly, but practice reading and playing rhythms as well. Bucket drumming has also helped my students identify form in music and given them the chance to listen to many different styles of music. Bucket drumming also gives my students a chance to alternate hands which will really help students who later decide to play an instrument for band.

All of my students love using the bucket drums and enjoy participating in any music activity that involves bucket drums! Even my fifth grade classes get excited when they see the bucket drums out. Over the last year, my students have really enjoyed playing bucket drums for my concerts. Everyone enjoyed hearing the bucket drums play to "Dance Monkey" and my students are excited to include bucket drumming in our Christmas concert this year.

I really enjoy using bucket drums in my music classes and continue to find new resources to improve my students' music education. The bucket drums actually motivate my students to want to read and perform music better. Thank you for giving my classes this amazing music opportunity!”

  • Keep Our Classroom Clean

    Funded Dec 29, 2021

Thank you so much for the masks, clorox wipes, and tissues. Due to your generous donations, now my students can grab a new mask or tissue whenever they need one. Currently, we have a high need for tissues in my school, so it is so nice to have enough back stock to supply my classroom and school needs. Before this donation, I was constantly running out of masks and tissues. These resources will last for the rest of the school year! It is also nice to be able to clean my desks, tables, and instruments every day with the clorox wipes. I no longer have to stress about keeping my classroom healthy and safe.

My students are so thankful for the masks and tissues. Before, many students were frustrated that my classroom was constantly running out of disposable masks and tissues. Now, I can get more masks or tissues as soon as they run out. This helps my students and I feel more comfortable and safe during this Covid time.

At the end of school, I am planning to use my remaining Clorox wipes to do a good sanitizing of my room and music supplies, so we can start clean and fresh for the new year. It is so nice to have enough cleaning supplies for the whole year!”

  • Musical Carpet for Class

    Funded Aug 27, 2021

Thank you so much for the music carpet! Since we got the carpet, we have been using it a number of ways. So far, my students have been enjoying playing music games on it. We have played many passing games and musical chase games on it. With this new carpet, all of my students can fit around the carpet to play the music games! They really enjoy playing "Pass the Stick" and "Pass the Pumpkin." We have also played musical parachute, "Go Fish" for rhythms, and we use it to play note races. My students love to race to a specific line or space on the staff that I give them!

When my students first saw the carpet, they were very excited! It has made it very easy to assign spots with my kindergarten and first grade students because I can tell them to go to a specific music instrument or symbol. Before, my students would get confused because there were six spots with same color. The students love identifying the colorful instruments and music symbols! They were also excited to see the treble clef so big! My students can walk on the staff and be notes on the staff. They can easily see the five lines and four spaces of the staff.

When we get back from vacation, we will be using this carpet for many instrument games. Students will be learning about different instruments and we can use the carpet to review the instruments they are learning. We will also be using the carpet to play instrument circle games and cup games. We are so thankful for this carpet and will continue using it for many years. Thank you to everyone's generosity!”

  • Library Full of Music

    Funded May 3, 2021

During this school year, my students have really enjoyed our new music books! So far, I have read some of the books to my classes and my students have read the books in my music centers. When I do music centers, I always include a music library rotation. In this center, I let students pick a book to read from my music library. My students love this rotation and constantly choose to read the donated books. I also like to pick a book to read/sing to my kindergarten, first, and second graders each week. With the song books, I have my students sing along or sing the repetitive phrases. I also ask comprehension questions about the story and review music material in it like instruments or musicians. We even figure out rhythm patterns to go with some of the repetitive phrases in these books.

When my students got to check out these new books in their music centers, they were so excited to see new material in my library! They immediately picked the donated books and started reading and looking at the pictures. Many of them were excited to share the story they read or the new music information they learned. They also have been a great therapy in my class this year. I also let the students who are upset or having a rough day, go in the back of the room and calm down by reading a book. I have had some students turn their negative behavior around after they read one or two books. My students and I are very thankful for the books donated and hope to expand our library even more this year!”

Every year, I like to teach my students about different cultures through music. Most of my students have never been out of our state, let alone a different country. I think it is important they experience other cultures and learn that we might have some differences, but have a lot of similarities as well. My students enjoy learning about different cultures through music and often have many questions. They especially enjoy my units on African and Latin American music. My students love playing instruments and always want a hands-on experience with the world instruments we are learning. The few world instruments I have are used every year in my music classes. I let them explore the instruments by looking at them, playing them, and teaching them the correct way to play. I would use these world instruments in my project to take my world instrument lessons to another level. My students would be able to experience these instruments with hands-on activities instead of just looking at pictures and hearing descriptions. With the djembe drums, I can teach students the three tones on the drum and we can perform different drum circle rhythm patterns. With the talking drum, they can squeeze the strings and experiment how the strings affect the pitch of the drum. Students will also get to use these instruments to play rhythm patterns while we listen to different songs from different cultures.
