My 5th-grade science standards include units on all of the topics that these kits provide (properties of matter, ecosystems, and water conservation). As a new teacher to this school, I found that I don't have any science materials to aid in the instruction of these or any topics. I also know that research supports hands-on learning and that students retain more information when they are actively engaged in what they are learning. These kits will allow my students to gain quality instruction and understanding of the Next Generations Science Standards through project-based learning. I plan to create small groups within my class and have students work in teams to explore life, physical, and earth sciences through labs and guided instruction.
