Into Reading Classroom Resources
Funded Sep 11, 2023I cannot begin to thank you enough for helping support my student's education along their 5th-grade journey. Having the support of people like you is vital in helping teachers provide a variety of educational resources that would otherwise be unavailable. I appreciate your kindness and generosity so much!”

Funded Oct 18, 2022Creating a love for reading is easy when you have books that students will find interesting while holding their attention. Many of the picture books I have have been purchased with my own money. This can become very expensive because books are not cheap. Being able to prove several learning opportunities for my students has helped them grow as students and more importantly as readers.
Some of the skills that I teach through picture books are theme, plot, character traits, and summarizing. I find it so effective to start teaching these skills through short stories like picture books. Having many choices gives me the chance to repeat the skills over a week or even longer. This helps the students retain the skills and concepts they will apply to longer texts later in the year.
I love to read to the kids as a whole group on the rug. It takes the kids out of their normal seating and put them in a more comfortable environment. All of my students enjoy the books we have in the class. We read them together, sometimes they read them independently, and we use them to look back in as we work on our skills.”

Funded Sep 20, 2022First off, thank you so much for giving my students such a great gift. I began this school year with the hope of encouraging my students to find a love of writing. I wanted to provide them with "journals" for their own personal thoughts and feelings in the hope they would just write for the love of writing.
The students spent an afternoon decorating their journals to personalize them. They were allowed to use construction paper, colored pencils/crayons, and scrapbook paper to design their cover. They have had the opportunity to make several journal entries so far. There are several school staff members they can write to or they can write a letter to their future selves.
The students were so excited to get their hands on their journals and to use the colored pens to share their thoughts. We've used the whiteboards often and I have seen student participation increase because they can just write their answers on their board. My hope is that they will improve in writing all around and they will have the ability to express themselves through words. I have truly enjoyed reading and responding to each student's journal entries to me.”
