Thank you so much for supporting my project. Our Students have benefited greatly from your donation. We have worked with so many mediums and created amazing art! We have perfected our painting skills and worked on drawing techniques. We have used art to express our feelings and ideas! We have grown in our ability to work together and cooperate by making art together. The students are thriving at Arlington and expressing themselves creatively. • Self-Care in the Garden

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to my project. We created amazing healing products from the garden and even set up a pop up shop to sell our products to the school and community. We created soothing calendula salve, lavender soap, and orange infused lip balm. We also made candles with essential oil. The students were amazed at how easy it was to create these amazing products. They also learned about branding as we created a logo and labels for our products. We could not have done these amazing self-care projects without your support. Thank you so much,

    Ms. Blaker”

  • Sweets to Eats: Hunger Relief Through Art

    Funded Nov 22, 2021

Our students have begun creating their cake stands and were thrilled to find out that THEY can make a difference in their community! We began by learning about food banks and discussed how we can raise money through our art to help our local food bank, God's Pantry. Then they learned all of the ins and outs of creating with slab pottery. They added textures and designs and will begin the glazing process in a week or so. We are thrilled to partner with multiple locations nearby in Lexington to help us sell the cake stands. Thank you so much for your support in providing the clay and glaze that made this project possible.”

  • A Living Laboratory Outdoor Classroom

    Funded Feb 24, 2021

Thank you so much for your support of our Living Laboratory at Arlington Elementary. We have learned so much together with our new garden beds. In the spring, we planted our beds with themes such as a pickle garden, a pizza garden, a pollinator garden, a self-care station, and a salsa garden. The students in our afterschool garden program, our Green Team, worked hard to maintain and keep our garden growing. We also recruited a Flower Power Team of 7 staff members who rotated and kept the garden watered and happy throughout the hot summer months. During the summer, we had a six week summer program where all 5 grades worked in the gardens. We made pickles, salsa, garden pizza and even lavender & calendula soap with our herbs. We also made art for our gardens with stepping stones and pressed herbs and flowers into clay for tiles. When students came back to school we hosted a drive through garden pickup where families drove through and received

A huge bag of veggies and some healthy recipes from our summer program. Our Green Team have kept up the great work with composting and turning over the garden for fall. However, we wanted to keep growing through the winter so the students have planted some varieties of garlic and can't wait to see them sprout in the spring! It really has become a huge benefit for our students and staff at our school. Our staff enjoy picking fresh veggies and herbs from our garden and the fresh flowers have been placed on teachers desks for a little pick me up. Thank you for your support! We can't wait to see how our garden continues from blossom and support our community. If you would like to view more photos and videos of our process check out Arlingtoneagleart on Instagram.”

Outdoor Classroom Description Our Outdoor Classroom at Arlington will be a living laboratory for students to access a hands-on experience in growing, harvesting, and tasting fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs. It will also provide a safe space for students to learn about environmental education on the school grounds, as many of our students do not have the ability to grow gardens at home. Students will also be empowered as leaders with our Green Team consisting of five students that will collect compost and do weekly maintenance. The Outdoor Classroom will serve as an inviting learning space for all of our teachers to bring their classes to learn outdoors, providing much needed fresh air and sunshine. This is especially important for our population who may not have access to safe outdoor spaces. This space will also serve as a place for de-escalating students with guided mindfulness activities in nature. All in all, our outdoor classroom will add a positive place for students to be exposed to environmental education, encourage outdoor class instruction and spark curiosity in growing and eating healthy food. We have a green space behind our art room. It provides enough room for our raised beds and includes an area that can be utilized for outdoor learning. It is our vision to create five raised theme garden beds to grow a pollinator garden, vegetables, and herbs to teach sustainability and healthy eating. Furthermore we plan to integrate literacy with “Story Walks” and encourage stress relief and de-escalation with Guided Meditations with nature.
