Unfortunately, we still live in a world where there is a lot of inequity regarding education for students of color. As a language teacher and a coach, I have also noticed how deeply rooted our systems have caused various communities to continue to be underfunded. My projects always have my students in mind because I remember being a student in the same building as them and never feeling like I "needed" anything. However, I still feel like I wanted to provide my students with opportunities to engage in academic and athletic settings that allow them to utilize resources responsibly. At the end of the day, there are thousands of educators who continue to teach in underfunded spaces, however, we all have decided to utilize DonorsChoose as a means to bridge the gaps of economic inequity that continue to affect our students. This is not a sympathy story, but a call for attention to the issues that educators might face.
