These students (performers) will be so excited when I tell them in rehearsal this week. My other classes will enjoy the surprise of new equipment to work on their BandLab projects.”

  • The Sound of Music

    Funded Oct 2, 2023

Between computers, keyboards, and electronic drum pads, one of the biggest needs in my classroom are headphones. I have had to purchase headphones almost every year because they are constantly being broken. I even have a wall dedicated to the broken headphones (and its just a small sample).

This project allowed me to purchase a much higher quality class set of headphones. I can happily say that since receiving these headphones, not a single pair has broken. It is very comforting to know I'm not going to run out of headphones and that these are a high enough quality they are holding up to 800 kids between the ages of 5 and 12.

    Thank you!”

    Ms. Patsos

  • Movement and Performance

    Funded Aug 15, 2023

The music and plays will be used for years to come. However, the big hit from this project were the fans. My students absolutely love moving and dancing with the fans.

In my after school theater group, we have discovered a way to use them in our production this year for a couple songs they are singing. Some of my "mermaids" are using them in "Under the Sea" and a few are using red and yellow fans to represent the sun in the opening of "The Circle of Life."

The fans are now a favorite when I give centers time and one option is to dance with different styles of music from around the world. (Even the boys absolutely love dancing with the fans.)

Thank you for your support in my classroom.”

  • Recorder Renaissance

    Funded May 19, 2023

Between covid and Hurricane Ian, I have not been able to teach recorder for a few years. This project allowed me to provide every 4th grade student with their very own recorder.

I have several students that always had a hard time in music. Now that they have their own instrument, they are working harder than ever in my classes. Some that struggled at first with breath and not squeaking have worked so hard they have surpassed everyone else to become my top students.

They are learning to read music, hand, finger and eye coordination and dexterity. Some are finally starting to know their right from their left. We learned a song at the beginning of the unit "Left Hand Over Right." It's a very catch song and now we sing the refrain whenever someone mixes up their hands on the recorder.

It has been so much fun to watch my 4th graders grow and truly own their progress in my class. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to bring recorders to my classroom for the first time in a long time.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Patsos

  • Traveling Musicians

    Funded Oct 18, 2022

It has certainly been a whirlwind since Ian hit a little over a year ago. The cart and other items purchased were and are still put to good use. For the two weeks that I was displaced from my classroom and had to travel from classroom to classroom, the cart and smaller instruments made it much easier to bring music class to their rooms.

My students enjoyed dancing at their desks, we did a lot of work on rhythm doing rhythmic play alongs on youtube using the rhythm sticks, egg shakers and little tambourine shakers. They also enjoyed playing the bells and boomwhackers along with songs.

The cart is still in daily use as a station in my classroom when my students have some time for centers and exploring music on their own.

It was truly a gift and made being out of my classroom much easier. Thank you with all my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Patsos

  • Keep Moving

    Funded Oct 17, 2022

Thank you for your contributions. I and my entire school benefited from this project. We missed 3 full weeks of school due to Hurricane Ian. Once we returned, several classrooms were still off limits due to construction. My classroom was one of the only rooms that did not suffer any damage from the storm. Because of this, my classroom became home to one of the pre-k classes who's room was still being fixed.

For two weeks I traveled around the school from room to room doing my best to create normalcy in an abnormal situation. The cart and made traveling from room to room much easier. I was able to take class sets of bells, boomwhackers, and various percussion instruments to every room.

It was a full two weeks before I had my classroom back. The cart is now a center for my students when we have center rotations. The keyboard lab stands are pieced together and supporting my keyboard lab center.

Thank you again for all your support during this difficult time in our school.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Patsos

In grades 3-5 we are learning to read the notes on the treble clef. This will prepare them for middle school when they will begin to play orchestral and band instruments. The big piano floor mat will be the perfect instrument to help my students connect the notes on the staff to the notes on an instrument. Each note is a specific color which coordinates with the boomwhaker set, instruments in which they are already familiar. In this age of social distancing and having to sanitize instruments constantly, these mats are played with your feet and not your hands. They will be able to step and dance on the the mat to create and play songs. It will be a perfect way to safely play an instrument together.
