Keeping My ESL Students Engaged!
Funded May 27, 2021I am beyond blessed with your generous donation for the TpT website gift card. I was able to purchase so many fantastic resources and ready-to-go materials in order to build many quality lessons for my ELLs (English Language Learners). These resources are vital during virtual and also in-person learning. This year I have 50 students grades K-5.
All of my resources had to be digitized - every single paper had to be scanned, uploaded, and made editable for all of my students. I have spent hundreds of hours scanning all of my worksheets, study books, and other practice materials, but your donations took it to the next level. My students did not have to just complete boring practice pages, they were able to interact meaningfully using TpT fun activities. They were able to play games, solve crosswords, color, trace and write digitally as much as they would in a regular setting. I was able to integrate all four domains of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing in all content areas: English Language, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Special Area Subjects as well.
Many TpT materials I purchased were also used during our Google Meets.
They LOVED the graphics, colors, and variety of activities I provided along with the necessary practice of grammar, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, and many other skills and strategies.
Students who did not participate in the beginning became so engaged. I had a greater response than before. What I also appreciated is the fact that many resources can be used both online and during in-person instruction. We used many activities and resources in the classroom as well.
Now that we are back to in-person teaching, I am still benefitting from these resources. I can choose to use the paper version or build technology-centered fun projects via Google Class. Also, the digital TpT materials are being used for my students who have to quarantine, or for my students who are sick at home - that way they do not miss anything.
I was also able to purchase specific material for my special education students. Several of them are students with autism, and some are non-verbal. I was able to purchase material that helps them express their feelings.
This year I also have two newcomers, and I am beyond thrilled I have found resources on TpT that help these students learn making the language accessible and providing equitable opportunities to learn. I could go on and on describing how much these materials have helped my students and my planning.
I made the lessons meaningful, and I believe that the students were engaged and motivated. Thank you again for your kind hearts.”
