  • Alphabet Activities are Cool!

    Funded Oct 21, 2024

I have received all of my alphabet materials from my last project, the project that you helped to fund for my kindergarten classroom. I had originally picked all alphabet materials, but some were unavailable. I was bummed at first, but the replacement materials have been so cool for the students in my class.

While most of the materials are still alphabet-related, a really cool replacement item was the snowflake building blocks. My students have been so creative making stars, trees, animals, magic wands, etc. Another neat replacement was the sensory tubes. They are very relaxing and so soothing, especially for a child that might need a break. We love them. The alphabet stamps were a fun way to practice sight words, and the alphabet rockets are a fun, yet challenging way for students to master beginning sounds.

I wouldn't have been able to purchase all of these wonderful learning tools without the help of generous donors like you. Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shaw

  • Math is Magnetic

    Funded Mar 22, 2024

One recent day I received the package I had been waiting for: the one from Donors Choose! I had not told my students that my project had been funded because I wanted to surprise them. Well, were they ever surprised!

Upon returning to the classroom from lunch and recess, they entered the class and saw a wonderful display of activities purchased by you. They could hardly wait to see what all of the boxes contained. It felt like Christmas morning when I shared everything with them.

All of the products from this project came from Lakeshore. They are all high-quality, very colorful, magnetic, and a fun way for my students to practice their skills with Measurement, Shapes, Counting On, Addition and Subtraction, and Ten Frames.

These activities will provide hours of fun for many, many years!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shaw

  • Magnetic Learning

    Funded Jan 17, 2024

Thank you very much for your generous help in funding materials for my classroom. I am always looking for fun new ways to engage my students, and these magnetic materials have done just that. It can be frustrating to work on something and then bump it mistakenly, causing all of your hard work to be ruined. Magnetic materials prevent this frustration.

I have been able to use these new materials whole group, small group, and during center time. The students love showing what they know and being able to hold it up to show me. I then take pictures of them with their hard work and share it with their families. I wish that I had been able to use materials like these when I was a kid!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shaw

  • Back to the Basics: Math, Reading, and Craft Supplies

    Funded Oct 18, 2023

My class and I are so excited to have had my latest project funded by your generous donations. So far, they have really enjoyed playing with the Peg Boards and the Playdoh Feelings Mats. I have demonstrated how to use the CVC picture snap cards, but they haven't had a chance to use them yet.

We are planning some crafts with the large, colorful craft sticks. We love the bright colors and the large size! I have already used some of the laminate as well.

I have already opened and used the Sharpie markers. It is so nice to have a brand new set of both the traditional markers as well as those with a broad tip. Sharpies are the best!

    Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shaw

  • Kindergarten, Here I Come!

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thank you again for your generous donation to my kindergarten classroom. My school does a great job of supplying basic school supplies for our students, such as crayons, pencils, and pencil boxes. Despite this help, one thing I love to get additionally for my students is a pack of multicultural crayons. We call them "skin colors" and the kids really love them. They enjoy finding "their" skin color and making realistic drawings in class.

I was pretty disappointed that we were unable to get the book KINDERGARTEN, HERE I COME for all of my students. I had been looking forward to getting these and handing them out on the first day of school or at Open House. Because they were unavailable, I replaced this part of the order with Digraph Letter Tubs. We haven't used those as yet since it is so early in the school year, but I know that my students will love sorting the items when the time comes.”

  • Printing Pretty Pictures

    Funded May 8, 2023

I just received my brand new printer and have already put it to great use. I provide hundreds of hands-on activities for my students each year and these are all printed in color and laminated.

I spend hundreds of dollars each year on ink for my printer, so I am thrilled to be able to finally have an Epson Eco Tank printer to use for this task. It had been recommended to me years ago that I purchase one since they are wonderful printers that use less ink, and when the ink needs to be replaced it is much more affordable than the cartridges for traditional printers. I put it to use immediately!”

  • Magnets and More!

    Funded Jan 2, 2023

I wanted to take a moment to thank you so much for your generous donations to my kindergarten classroom. I am more excited than the kids with the headphones, but to have a full class set with actually headphone jacks (instead of flimsy usb jacks) has made my life so much easier.

My students love everything magnetic, especially MagnaTiles. I couldn't wait to show them the newest ones with letters and numbers. Not only do they love the size of them for building, but they are also super cool to use when spelling CVC words, matching uppercase and lowercase letters, and matching numbers to their quantities. They have so much fun without even realizing they are working and learning.

I wouldn't be able to provide all of these wonderful tools without the support of people like you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

  • Busy Hands and Working Minds!

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

Your generous donations have allowed me to purchase some amazing products for my classroom. While some will not be used until later in the school year, we have already used several others. I love how the materials allow children to see and manipulate them! Being able to "see" numbers and values is incredibly important at their young age and helps to prepare them for the future. These materials help to create a strong math foundation while having fun doing so. Doing simple activities with a calendar helps with counting, numeracy skills, patterns, days of the week, and months of the year. Using base ten blocks to represent how many days we have been in school is a visual representation of numbers and their place values.

As we progress this year, we will be able to use the giant number bonds (I am super excited about these) as well as the 120 chart and Number of the Day activity chart. Lots of learning fun is coming our way!”

  • Finish With Flair

    Funded Jun 28, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donations. It helped me to purchase some incredible materials for my classroom. While I had hoped to have the materials before school ended last year, the project was not funded until after school was out for the summer. Because of this, I have not been able to use all of the materials yet. My new students have not learned all of the skills needed to be able to interact with the cvc cubes or dominoes, but they thoroughly enjoy the Expo markers and the Melissa and Doug blocks.

I have used my Teachers Pay Teachers gift card many times to create and download fun, hands-on activities for the class, and I plan on continuing to do so until the funds are used up. I look forward to being able to use all of the purchased materials sometime this year.

    Thank you so very much!”

  • We Have “Magnetic” Personalities!

    Funded Feb 18, 2022

The Magna-tiles that you helped purchase for my classroom arrived today! While we didn't get a chance to construct and build with them yet, we did open everything up and make plans for what we want to do with them. I can't get over how quickly this was funded and how lucky we are to have received these materials.

My students really enjoy just being able to take a break once in a while from the busy kindergarten life. These tiles are going to help so much. They have incredible imaginations and now we have enough tiles for everyone to be able to construct and create at the same time. I can't wait to send you pictures of all that they accomplish.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shaw

The magic boards are a mess-free way for students to draw, write, and develop fine motor and writing skills. They can travel with students to grandma’s house, the store, or on a family trip and last for years. Unifix cubes and alphabet blocks help to develop fine motor skills, counting, pattern making, and encourage students to learn while they are playing. These are always very popular in the classroom and I would love to be able to provide students with their own sets to use at home. My students are having a very different preschool experience because they are learning virtually this year and these materials will help bring school to life at home.
