Concerns about sensory processing and spatial awareness are becoming prevalent in young children today. Their access to different types of play is limited by things such as parents’ work schedules, where they live, income and the safety of outside play spaces. As a result, they are not getting the same experience as a child who has full range -touching tree bark, smelling grass, feet and hands in the mud or sand, doing flips, balancing, climbing. The materials I am asking for will be used to meet these needs. In my classroom I see kids who have not been exposed to having different materials, substances, or textures on their hands and feet. They have a need to move their bodies before they can focus on an activity, needing more time to get through circle time and learning activities while meeting the need for movement. In the classroom I need to provide them different sensory experiences that used to occur at home; such as touching dough, mud, sand, tree bark, smelling different smells, looking at contrasts-bright and dark, rough or smooth, wood or rock, hearing bells, sirens, different animals, voices. I see kids always running into each other, tripping over their feet, running into everything, they need chances to climb, tumble, flip, spin to build their awareness of space. But this is preschool so I don’t just teach them what they are missing I let them experience learning through play. I am asking for
