An iPad for Independent Learning!
Funded Apr 7, 2021I teach students with special needs in first through fifth grades. Meeting the students at their various levels, with their diverse needs, was very challenging when we were teaching students in-person and virtually simultaneously. With the use of this iPad I realized I was able to individualize my learning groups. While I taught some students virtually, the in-person students were able to use this iPad for independent lessons.
With the use of this iPad I was also able to address the social-emotional needs of my students by providing reinforcement for their engagement in virtual lessons and activities. I adopted a super hero theme throughout the virtual teaching sessions and was able to place virtual super hero stickers on a chart on the iPad screen to help the students see their progress and growth. This approach was very motivating and encouraged the students to work hard despite the challenges of learning in a virtual setting.
Since we have returned to in-person teaching and learning, this iPad has been an integral part of our instructional day. The students enjoy working independently or in small groups on Google slides I have prepared. They are able to use the iPad to engage in learning activities and games, where their progress is monitored. This helps each student to see the skills he or she has mastered and those that the student needs to continue to develop. The generosity of the donors who purchased this iPad for our class is very appreciated! This is not an expense I would have been able to afford for my students, as many other instructional supplies were needed in our classroom. My students were so excited to receive this iPad and use it daily to enhance their learning!”

A Laptop for Learning!
Funded Apr 7, 2021This laptop has enabled me to individualize my zoom lessons to meet the very diverse needs of my students. The Google slides I prepared were colorful, interactive, and contained highly motivating visual images. This laptop was able to use the current technology needed to teach my students virtually. The camera on this laptop allowed me to teach my students with special needs through zoom lessons during the 2020-21 school year. I was able to see them daily and they were able to see me, which provided them with emotional support during the pandemic.
Now that we have returned to in-person teaching for the 2021-22 school year, I am able to use the laptop to teach small group lessons, with support from instructional videos and games. The students are able to type their writings on the laptop, with the accommodations provided on the computer. The students can access various instructional programs needed to support the curriculum using the laptop.
When our school began teaching virtually at the start of the pandemic, it quickly became apparent that I did not have access to the technology I needed to teach my students successfully. I was spending so much of my own personal money to supply my students with learning materials in their homes, that I was unable to purchase an up-to-date computer that was able to allow me to teach effectively through zoom lessons. This laptop was a game changer and made all the difference in my teaching! I am extremely grateful for the generosity of the donors who helped to provide my class with this laptop.”
