  • Organize the Chaos

    Funded Dec 5, 2023

With this project, I was able to organize so many supplies. Before, I was storing these supplies to the best of my ability on shelves, and it was difficult to find exactly what I needed. Now, the clear containers make it very efficient to pull craft supplies and materials when needed. The clear labeled containers make it easy for my older more independent students to access supplies independently.

An organized classroom can reduce stress and make the environment feel more welcoming and enjoyable. Since our supplies are easily organized it has reduced time for finding materials and allows more time for activities and instruction. Thank you for giving to my special needs classroom that feels like home away from home.”

  • Summer Supplies

    Funded May 7, 2022

We were so excited to have this project funded for Summer Supplies. After a long school year, we are able to provide students with activities to keep them engaged during the summer months. Most of my students come from a low-income based household and may not have received access to summer toys without this project. My classroom consists of students with severe to moderate disabilities ranging from kindergarten all the way through 8th grade. Mostly, my students enjoy and learn better with hands-on activities, within the classroom setting. As a teacher I often hear that most students spend the majority of their summer break on video games, cell phones, or social media. It is my hope that when students are provided with the resources to go outside and exercise and play, that they will do just that. With your donation, my students received play doh, bubbles, frisbees, water toys, jump ropes, and more. My students love using play doh in the classroom and I just know they will enjoy it at home as well. Water play is also thrilling in the hot summer months and can include the whole family. Frisbees and jump ropes can also be used for family engagement and used in a variety of ways to play games and exercise. This donation also included a variety of squish or squeeze items that can be used to de-escalate or manage stress. I use fidgets and squish stress-relief items in my classroom when students seem fidgety, unfocused, aggravated, or just a ball of nerves. Often times, students with Autism can become over stimulated and a fidget can help. With this donation students were given a couple small squish items to take home in hopes that they will use some of the strategies practiced at school in the home environment as well. This donation also included some fun candy for the students to take home and enjoy later or share with friends and family. I always enjoy seeing the students' faces when they receive a gift. Sometimes the simplest item can bring someone such joy. Sometimes students with disabilities can show extreme excitement over a simple gesture or gift. Thank you to the Donors Choose organization and to all the donors out there bringing this joy to the lives of so many students. Once again, thank you for your generous donation and showing love and support to my special students.”

  • Books for Exceptional Students

    Funded Oct 28, 2021

Thank you, Donors! The students in my special needs classroom and I would like to share how excited we are to have this project funded for books for our classroom. After a long time on virtual learning due to COVID-19 pandemic, we were excited to get back in the classroom and our hands on some good books. This project reached about 12 special needs students, grades K-6th grade, living in a low-income community, with varying disabilities ranging from Down Syndrome, Autism, and FMD. With your donation, we received many amazing books on various levels. Some of my younger students enjoyed the soft picture books, while my older students really took an interest to the "Spot of emotions" books which included small plush characters to represent each emotion. In a room full of various grade levels and disabilities, I always find it a struggle to find something to meet everyone's needs. With this project, thanks to donors like yourself, we were able to expand our classroom library with a little something to meet the needs of each one of my students. I, as a special education teacher, especially enjoy the books discussing different emotions and how we can react and respond to those emotions. Again, we want to thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness. It is Donors like you who help make a difference in the world. Thank you and God bless.”

  • Stress Free Classroom

    Funded Sep 20, 2021

Thank you, Donors! The students in my Special needs classroom and I would like to share how excited we are to have this project funded for supplies to help create a stress-free classroom. This project reached about 12 special needs students, living in a low-income community, with varying disabilities ranging from Down Syndrome, Autism, and FMD. With your donation, we received pop its, pop it game, animal toy figures, a treasure box, lots of novelty toys for the treasure box, liquid motion bubblers, and a peekaboo learning farm. The pop it fidgets are so popular right now and the students were so excited that they each received one to keep in the classroom. When presenting stress-free items or fidgets to my students I like to demonstrate how each item is used and model appropriate behavior. Everyone was so excited about the treasure box and the prizes they can earn for appropriate behavior. This was a huge hit. Again, we want to thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness. It is Donors like you who help make a difference in the world. Thank you and God bless.”

  • Back 2 School Supplies

    Funded Aug 27, 2021

Thank you, Donors! The students in my Special needs classroom and I would like to share how excited we are to have this project funded for Back-to-School Supplies at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. After a long time on virtual learning due to COVID-19 pandemic, we were excited to get back in the classroom. This project reached about 12 special needs students, living in a low-income community, with varying disabilities ranging from Down Syndrome, Autism, and FMD. With your donation, we received magnetic letters, dry erase boards, laminating sheets, 2 post it easel pads, highlighters, sticky notes, paper clips, and more. With the post-it easel pads, I was able to create anchor charts for the students and stick them to the wall for students to utilize as a visual. I allowed student input for these charts and sometimes the students even wrote on the posters themselves. The laminating sheets make life so much easier because important student work, documents, or visuals, can be laminated and protected from rips, tears, and the wear of everyday use. This really comes in handy in a special need's classroom. My students loved using the highlighters to find key words or sight words and highlight them. Younger students used the highlighters for tracing. The magnetic letters are a very useful tool in the classroom. We use these letters to form sight words, practice spelling, and letter recognition. Some students enjoy spelling their name with the letters while other students use them to match letters, upper and lower case. The dry erase boards come in handy when working with student's one on one or in small groups. We use manipulatives and have students write their answer on a dry erase board. We also use them to play games and draw on. The dry erase boards are also magnetic so they can be used with the magnetic letters. Each student can have a board and a group of letters corresponding to the word or letters they are currently working on. Sticky notes are a favorite in our classroom and serve multiple purposes. We use them as a whole class by answering questions and sticking them to the main white board in front of the classroom. I also allow students to use them for their assignments at times. They are encouraged to write key words, names or phrases on their post it and we discuss why it was important. As a teacher, of course I use post it notes to write down important notes. It helps keep me organized and reminds me of important information. I also received a cordless keyboard and mouse for my computer. This comes in handy quiet a bit more than I expected. Not having a mouse connected to my computer allows me more room t walk around and not be stuck behind my desk when presenting something to the students on the screen. Again, we want to thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness. It is Donors like you who help make a difference in the world. Thank you and God bless.”

  • Germ Free Classroom

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you again for giving my classroom the tools needed for a germ free classroom. We are using the disinfectant spray daily on frequently touched surfaces and the Kleenex boxes are placed in easy assessable places for the students. The students especially liked the germ-x keychains. They were all excited to choose between the various patterns. I plan to put their name on them so they will not get mixed up. We also have a supply of germ-x to refill their individual containers.

I am very grateful for Donors Choose and all the wonderful donors who make our classroom a little more functional with each project. Thank you. God Bless.”

  • Desk Pets

    Funded May 3, 2021

First of all, I want to say Thank You for funding my 1st ever Donors Choose project. I was excited to receive a blessing from you. When the packages arrived, I was humbled and overwhelmed with gratitude. I used the desk pet project in my special education unit classroom. The students earned points for showing acts of kindness and following directions. Once the students reached 10 points, they were then able to choose a desk pet that they would name and care for. The students loved naming their pets; bubbles, pig, and waddles were among the few named. As a group we discussed the type of habitats our pets needed and the types of food they would eat. One student named her pet whale "bubbles" and added water to the container so he could survive. This action melted my heart. We hope to have other projects like this funded in the future to brighten the faces of my exceptional students.”

The stackable storage container will house all of the desk pets and their food like a "pet shop or store" for students to select from after they have earned enough punches from their punch cards. The students will receive a punch on their card for completing task, being kind to one another, and showing good behavior. Students will be rewarded throughout the week. On Friday they will get the opportunity to turn in their punch cards in return for food for their pets. The small clear plastic storage boxes will be the habitats for the desk pets. The 3D animal erasers will be selected by students as their very own desk pets. The mini food erasers will be selected by students for their desk pets to individualize their desk pet’s habitat. They are also going to write in journals about their pets and how they earned items for their pets. This project not only helps with classroom behavior but also with math, writing, and reading. We would be so thankful if this project is funded, it sounds like so much fun!
