Many of my students are black and brown. Many of my students face or have faced trauma. All of my students want to and deserve to learn. The materials that have been provided for their reading instruction are either not the correct reading level to support growth, or not culturally relevant, or both. My goal is to broaden the scope of materials I have to use to teach them reading. By using materials at an appropriate level, and materials that are relevant to their life experience, I hope to increase their engagement and love for reading.
