This past year has been hard on my students trying to learn online and not getting much exercise and be able to learn how to work as a team not just on a project but also on being a great teammate playing an organized sport. Basketball is the first step in a long list of life lessons. Students will have to be able to communicate and work as a team. There is also a discipline which they will also need to know how to deal with as an adult not just as a student. Having the supplies I have listed (defensive mannequin, dribble stick), it will be used for the students to learn how to dribble the basketball which will enhance their hand and eye coordination which is vital and proven to help in the classroom for writing. There is time in class where group work will consist of a few items and it will help the students be able to cope and deal with conflict and work our a solution to achieve what goal is being set by the teacher or coach.
