Operation: Essentials
Funded Sep 23, 2021Thank you so much for pouring love and life into this project. The coronavirus has spread through urban areas like the Bronx faster than rural areas and has disproportionately affected African-American and Hispanic communities.
Our students in temporary housing have been especially affected. With all requested items we provided our families with a bag filled with everyday essentials such as soap, laundry detergent, hand sanitizer, and food. All of which can help our students and their families stay afloat a little bit easier. Our hope is to try to keep our students focused on learning in school rather than on their struggles they may be facing at home during this pandemic. It was so awesome seeing the smiles on our parents faces as they walked away with one of these awesome care bags filled with great everyday essentials.
Thanks again for all the support, I truly appreciate it. Wishing you awesomeness!”
With gratitude,
Mr. S. Rodriguez

Funded Sep 6, 2021Thanks so much for all the support with this critical project. This project was created during a summer where due to Covid-19 our students had little to no access to water water within our school building. Water fountains were unsafe to use and parents were not sending enough water with their child. Not to mention our lunchroom was ridiculous hot with very poor air flow. We had no fans or means to provide a source of fresh water to our students in need.
Drinking enough water is essential for physiological processes such as circulation, metabolism, and temperature regulations. Although excessive dehydration is associated with serious health problems, even mild dehydration can cause issues, including headaches, irritability, poorer physical performance, and reduced cognitive functioning. Our students were here to learn, but how could they at their bests if this need for water wasn't take care of fist.
Thanks to you all coolers with iced water will be placed in each established zone on our school floor where students can easily refill their personal water bottles or grab quick drink. This helped to assure that each student will have access to water wherever they are and at anytime. Fans were used to ensure a constant airflow in lunchroom, and other hot areas where our students gather. All to keep our kiddo's nice and cool. I love you all and appreciate you to the max! Thank you, thank you, and another big thank you
YOUR AWESOME!!!!!!!”

Funded Aug 4, 2021Thank you so much for pouring love and life into Operation: Dress for Success. Our South Bronx students have been supper impacted by Covid-19 which has layered on to the already existing struggles our families face. knowing not all of our students don't have enough resources to support their basic needs will forever break my heart. Every student deserves a hot meal and clean clothes on their backs.
All students designated to be in immediate need of clothing will receive the AE gifts as a support. These students include students living in temporary housing. All other students will earn a gift card through our schools PBIS (P.R.I.D.E) award system.
When a student earn an American Eagle gift card they will have the opportunity to sit with me and practice money management skills like spending on a budget, and spending wisely on AE'S website. An awesome skill that will promote independence and student advocacy. Students will ultimately be able to choose their own clothing and make their own online purchases with parent support.
We currently have the gift cards as part of our top tier set of prizes. As of now no student have achieved that level, but we are approaching our first set of winners for the first set of winners before our upcoming holiday break. Thank thank you so much for making this happen for our students and ensuring they have what they need to stay focus on their learning.”

I feel so blessed to be able to provide a hot meal to our students during a pandemic like this. Thanks again for all your support, wishing you awesomeness. WOOOOO!!!! WE DID IT =D”

Funded Apr 28, 2021Thanks so much we appreciate you all to max!! Our diversity library will provide a diverse collection of people, ideas, and cultures from which our students can connect to and learn from. All received books will go towards the creation of such a library this fall 2021 and the development of lessons and activities that will focus on transforming differences into celebrations. Each book reflects back a character, setting, and moral that our black, brown, and Latino students can relate to.
It is the very essence of human nature to try and seek out others who not only think like us, but look like us. What better way to find that connection than through the power of books. More Black, brown, and Latino books in our libraries will create an opportunity for our students of color to see that their lives are worth more than atrocities being played out in the world today. Thanks again to all of you for your support and love. Wishing you all awesomeness. =D”

Funded Apr 7, 2021This project allowed us support our incredible play based off the film "Shrek". We used the fabric and fabric scissors to enhance our costumes and set builds. When the students saw the Shrek t-shirts and new props they were super excited because it helped them get more into character than before. The students who played Shrek and princess Fiona looked the part. We ran out of paint during our initial set builds so the paint requested in this project really came in handy and allowed us to Finnish all our sets. The play was pre-recorded and shared throughout the entire school. I currently have a project up titled "Operation: Cool down" which is to support our students physical and mental well-being. Access to water has been an issue this summer with school water fountains still being unsafe to use. Parents aren't sending students to school with enough water which is leaving us with very thirsty kids. This project will provide us will all the resources to provide easy access to drinking water throughout the day for students to say hydrated. Operation: Cool down also includes fans to create a cooler environment in areas such as our cafeteria where it tends to get very hot. Thank you so much for all the love you poured into this project. We appreciate you to the max =D”

Funded Apr 7, 2021Sensory Day 2021 was a hit! With our requested materials we were able to set up different stations where students were able to engage in different physical activities. We used our bubble machines to enhance our overall outdoor experience as well as to create a healthy stimuli. Students were so mesmerized by the bubbles instantly calming and exciting them at the same time. I was in charge of our scooter station where each class used the scooters to ride an obstacle course, stretch their legs, and of course have lots of fun. Thank so much for all your support, care, and contributions it made all the difference to our event and created an experience, and opportunity, and fun that will never be forgotten. Funded Feb 21, 2021Thank you so much for your love and support with "Brining Colors through Covid". Thanks to your contribution we were able to purchase all the paint supplies needed to throw a virtual art party for our seniors. Each student got a canvas bag filled with their very own canvas, paint and brush set, gloves, apron, and more. The event took place over zoom and the turn out was out of this world. Each student painted in response to one of the three provided prompts. "Paint your favorite superhero, Paint your favorite person, or paint your favorite place. " The resulting student paintings were nothing short from of works of art. The way each student manipulated colors even combined some to get desired look. Thank you so much for bringing color to our students lives especially during these tough times. I appreciate you all to the Max.
Currently I have a project titled "Seniors, Ready to ride". This project is about celebrating our seniors and supporting their movement with a scooter. The scooter will work on their fine and gross motor skills, and balance but also give them something fun to do just in time for the summer.”

Funded Jan 29, 2021Thank you so much for your love and support with "Operation Essentials". As mentioned in our project homelessness can have a severe negative impact on a student's socio-emotional well-being, mental health and academic achievement. Homelessness has become a huge issue in New York City. Every day, New York City's homelessness crisis plays out in classrooms around the city, where thousands of students struggle to keep up in school while dealing with the trauma of not having stable housing. That's why a project like this is so important to our school community of students with disabilities. Our students already face a mountain of obstacles so when you factor in homelessness and the lack of resources that it can come with it can be very overwhelming for our families.
With the essential resources provided I was able to create care bags for our students in temporary housing. Each care bag had a scarf, hat, gloves, snacks, hygiene products and sanitizer to keep them safe during this pandemic. At my school we have students physically in the building and remote. We called each student's parents to let them know we are thinking of them during this time and we would like them to come and pick up a bag if their child was remote or that we would send a care bag home with their child if he/she was in the building. Parents were so excited and really appreciated the fact that we cared enough to put together these items for their child. Also after each bag was created I was able to immediately give to the students in temporary housing that were in the building. Seeing their smiles as I handed them these gifts just made my heart jump. As the students opened their bags and saw all of their goodies such as their very own deodorant some became super excited to show their families at home.
Currently I have two projects up and running. The first titled "Seniors, Ready to ride". This project is about celebrating our seniors and supporting their movement with a scooter. The scooter will work on their fine and gross motor skills, and balance but also give them something fun to do just in time for the summer. My second project is "Diversity Library for all". This project is focusing on creating a diversified library in central location in our school that reflects our diverse student population. I requested 3 copies of each book to give both students and teachers greater access. Teachers will be able to use this books as a teaching tool and way to activate our students imaginations and get them thinking about the possibilities that their lives could take on. You guys are now and forever apart of my school community and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for reaching into yours and sharing a little love. I appreciate you to max and wish you all awesomeness.”
